Adidas Energy Boost 2.0 review

Adidas Energy Boost 2.0 running sneakers went through some of the most rigorous testing that I had the opportunity to do. The reason I did that is because they are advertised as shoes that bring a revolution to running. How is this exactly, read in review.

For the tests, here comes the second generation(2.0), which is almost identical to the first generation, so this review applies to the older Boost generation as well.

How sneakers get my attention from the start: I test them on different surfaces and in different weather conditions. After I run more than 300 kilometers, I can only say that they get better with each kilometer. Also, I can say that the Energy Boost possess the X factor which sets them apart from the competition.

Simple black design

Design

Design of Adidas Energy Boost 2.0 sneaker at a first glance is very simple, especially in black, like the tested model. Those who prefer vibrant colors will be equally happy because several options are available.

Like most of the sneakers that are currently on the market, Boosts are made of a single piece of material, which means the inside is stitch free so blisters are a thing of the past.

TechFit reinforcements

The material used for construction is very flexible so after the second run, the sneaker adapts to the shape of your foot. Because the front of the sneaker gets maximum load, the material is reinforced with TechFit technology which further supports the foot. TechFit reinforcements also ensure that for the duration of the run, the sneaker will maintain its integrity and still conform to the shape of the foot.

Reflective elements on heel area

The tongue is integrated, so it is not necessary to adjust it. The lacing system is classically designed and is a plus to the rubber reinforcement that gives stability while running and firmly locks foot.

What I didn’t notice were the reflective elements on the heel. They are not noticeable until they are illuminated. Reflective elements are found only in the heel area, so if you are running at night you should have reflective element on the front.

Revolutionary soles

Soles

All Boost revolutions are happening in the soles. The secret is in the foam that is used to create the Energy Boost soles. The soles of other manufacturers are often too soft or too hard, so they usually require a longer period to get used to.

Adidas have solved this problem and running in Boost soles feels very natural and neutral. The sole is very soft, but still absorbs shock very well on hard surfaces.

SPEED_CELL cavity

Cross-country surfaces were the only surfaces on which I had a problem with running since I could feel every rock. So I would not recommend running on such surfaces with these sneakers. This sneaker feels very natural and is best on asphalt for which it was made.

Boost foam is reminiscent of Styrofoam and you can see what it looks like when you remove the sockliner. Located below the cartridge in the left sneaker there is a cavity for miCoach SPEED_CELL chip.

Boots foam

For good grip to surfaces, Adidas uses Adiwear tire which is highly resistant to abrasion. After I ran more than 300 km, there is only minimal traces of usage. This is another big plus, Energy Boost can withstand a lot more than the “recommended” 600–700 kilometers after which you should switch running sneakers.

In my tests I had no problems with slipping, except when running in heavy rain. But I do not consider that a downside, since I have not had a chance to test the ones that are slip resistant in heavy rain.

Final word

Adidas Boost Energy have completely met my expectations and I think that Adidas have revolutionized running. You can feel this from the first run. In addition to the fantastic feeling while running, the soles have very good resistance to abrasion and can handle a lot of kilometers.

A big thanks to Adidas Croatia for providing this product and @07thking for help with translation.

Pictures are taken at the moment when review was completed and therefore sneakers are muddy. They are not cleaned, because I think that the real pictures says more than “perfect” ad pictures.
